As the spring season comes to a close, so do our sports.
We have finished most of our sports, with Softball going strong, as well as some members of the track team and the Tennis team, who participated in the CIF playoffs.
Baseball
Varsity Baseball ended with an overall record of 6-23, including CIF playoffs.
An important season highlight was the San Marcos game. It was a good win because they played them in a tough three-game tournament.
They won the third game after two harsh losses, demolishing them 14-8 on April 18.
“Building strong bonds and pushing each other to improve every day, with the hard work we’ve put in, we’re ready to make a real impact when it matters most,” senior Jake Johnson said.
Softball
Varsity Softball went into CIF playoffs with a 23-6 record, including a 4-0 win on their senior night against RB.
Their team describes itself as having good, strong bonds,
“It went well when we were co-league champs with Del Norte,” junior Alyssa Menges said.
Softball won their first playoff game against Otay Ranch on May 20, 5-4, and their second playoff game against Bonita Vista, 5-4.
They lost in the third round, 6-0, and faced Bonita Vista again on May 29 to determine if they would advance.
Boys’ Lacrosse
The Varsity Boys’ Lacrosse team ended their regular season with a banger of a game against Carlsbad, with an ending score of 7-9, bringing their record to 3-8 overall.
“We faced both the ups and downs throughout the season, picking each other up after tough games and celebrating our victories, ultimately creating a family bigger than the game of lacrosse,” sophomore Adam Monarch said.
They ended the CIF playoffs in their game against Carlsbad, losing in their second game.
Girls’ Lacrosse
The Varsity girls Lacrosse team, even with a bunch of new players, was proud of their wins against Castle Park with a score of 10-1 and Westview 12-7.
With a 3-13 record, they still were able to keep their spirits up.
“Our team worked hard until the very end to make every moment count by celebrating all the little victories,” junior Meila Ficco said.
Swim
The swim team had key individuals, including senior Ben Stone. He contributed by going and winning 3rd in state championships and breaking a school record of a time of 45.1 seconds in the 100-meter freestyle.
“I joined this sport three years ago, unknowing of what lay ahead, and now it’s my second year being on varsity, and I’m grateful every day for the people I was able to meet. I beat the school record for the 100 free, but I was also lucky enough to grow closer to some of my teammates,” junior William Lennon said.
Dive
Senior Connor Liddle was an important figure on the team with getting first in the San Diego Division One championships, and he had 264 points and a score of 20.
The dive team has Liddle ranked at 14 in the state of California. We can see their meets have been on and off, with girls winning and then the boys, but usually none at the same time.
Boys’ Golf
The varsity golfers worked together as a team with an overall record of 9-9.
“This season was a learning experience, but it’s great to meet new people and bond with the team because I think that’s what it’s all about. It seems very strong. You know, if you have really good team morale, it sets the team up for many wins and mountains to overcome,” junior Matteo Scaffa said.
Boys’ Tennis
Boys’ Tennis overall had a good season with an overall record of 2-5-1.
In CIF, senior Sasha Kremliovsky took second in singles. Senior Will Hovel also qualified in singles, along with the doubles teams: seniors Jack Skalsky and Michael Markoff, and Kai Powell and junior Hugo Haeseler.
They took a huge win at CIF playoffs against Adelanto High School on May 7, dominating 14-4.
Track and Field
Track and Field had an interesting season with injuries that affected certain aspects of the team’s runs.
Poway had a good season, a lot of the relays and some individual runners made it to CIF.
Junior Cooper Casselberry is representing Poway State this year, running the 3200.
We have some distance runners representing Poway further in CIF for state.
