Track and Field is a rapidly growing sport, and like many sports, student success depends on having a great coach.
Lindsey Vail Davis, who started this year as the new JV Girls Basketball coach, is also now the hurdle coach for Poway High School.
“She can communicate better with you guys than I can”, Track and Field Coach Ronnie Harris told Poway’s 2026 Hurdle team.
Davis’s youth, experience with state-level races, and previous coaching made her the perfect pick for Harris. He felt experience allows her to communicate and get on a similar level to the athletes.
Davis’s experience as a hurdler and long jumper includes starting track at the young age of five years old. In her middle school years, she broke twelve of her high school’s records, including five that still have not been beaten, and she kept racing in college at Metropolitan State University in Hurdles and Long Jump.
Davis has coached for over 15 years, starting at the school she attended, Dakota Ridge High School.
“I broke the high school long jump record, then coached the girl who broke my record,” Vail said.
She has also coached girls’ and boys’ basketball from 4th to 12th grade for 15 years. This is her first year at Poway. She worked alongside coach Jones as the girls’ basketball coach and is now a part of the track and field community.
Her goal for Poway is to improve students’ athletic skills greatly and to help them reach their goals through their own efforts and skills.
“I want athletes to work hard for it, like a promotion in the work force,” Vail said.
She aims to push her kids out of their comfort zone and help them push through mental blocks and physical barriers. “I used to be scared to run at them, and now I attack them.” Hurdler Seth Sommer said.
