When looking for a place to eat, multiple things cross your mind, including the type of food, the restaurant’s atmosphere, price, parking, and availability. I’m going to walk you through the beginning of your day with a beautiful scenic breakfast spot in the Gaslamp District, next lunch right on the beach in Del Mar with amazing views of the water. Then to dinner down in lively Mission Beach, and finally a sweet treat at Belmont Park to enjoy.
When looking for a breakfast spot, you want something fun to start your day off, and a variety of food to choose from, whether you want savory or sweet. At Morning Glory in Downtown San Diego, they have everything you could want.
The atmosphere is similar to the Lafayette Hotel with a flair of alien, Sci-fi touches and stunning city views. This is a busier restaurant, so I would recommend getting there as close to 8 a.m. to beat the wait.
My favorite food there is steak and eggs; I get a medium-well steak and over-easy eggs. I prefer my eggs to be really runny, or baked French toast, that’s fluffy, buttery and crisp perfection on the outside.
Next is lunch at Monarch Ocean Pub. It’s a rooftop restaurant overlooking Del Mar beach. Although it does serve food all day, this is great for mid-day.
I would suggest going with a group of people and getting sharables. My favorites are the crispy Loligo calamari and the smoked wings. For a single meal, I suggest the applewood bacon burger and the house-smoked turkey sandwich.
It’s not a crazy busy restaurant, and they have lots of seating, so I wouldn’t expect much of a wait. Around the Monarch, there are a lot of cool boutiques and little shops that are really fun to look in to find cool pieces of clothing.
For dinner, head down to Belmont Park and Common ball , a rooftop seafood restaurant. I love this restaurant because it’s never too crowded, has very reasonably priced food, and lots of different seating choices.
They have high tables, low tables, and fire pit seating with couches. My mom and I love to get the California roll, spicy edamame, and the spicy California roll. I love getting sushi here because it’s not fishy at all, has really good portion sizing and is affordable. If you don’t like seafood, they also serve some typical American foods such as a variety of sandwiches and steak .
For dessert, just walk a short distance into Belmont Park for a giant ice cream from Sweet Shoppe. I love chocolate ice cream in a cup with brownies on top. They have huge servings that can definitely be shared and are very reasonably priced. They also serve bakery items.
For a perfect day full of good eats or to try each of these places sporadically you won’t be disappointed.
