Senior Lexi Burg keeps her eyes on the goal as she aims to score against Carlsbad on Dec. 9. Burg plays a huge role as the offensive leader and team captain and continues to have a good season.

Swimming through the cold water, water dripping off her cap, senior Lexi Burg receives the ball, scores, and the crowd goes wild.

Burg has loved the water for as long as she could remember. She first participated in club swimming in elementary school and went to pools and beaches all throughout her childhood.

Burg has been playing water polo for six years. A friend introduced her to the sport and convinced her to try it out. “I would have never thought that I would fall in love with the sport as much as I did.” Burg said.

Burg is one of the team captains along with senior Camryn Peterson.

“She’s amazing, she uses her experience and strength to always help out everyone. She carries an amazing positive attitude and the pool deck wouldn’t be the same without her,” teammate Hailey Cavaglieri said.

“Lexi is an amazing captain and an even better best friend. She’s really social and definitely knows how to make the team have a good time,” teammate Cammy Peterson said.

Her favorite memories from her water polo season have been winning CIF division 2 championships and CIF division 1 championships, and all the bonds she has created with her teammates.

Burg has contributed to the many wins on the team this season. COVID definitely was hard on every and their sports. “COVID definitely took a toll on my team, but I am beyond thankful that everyone stayed healthy and that we ended up getting a season no matter the length. Coming back from a long break like that was very difficult, and we all had to recondition ourselves and in a way start from the beginning.” Burg said.

Lexi hopes to play club water polo in college and will play club for Pacific Polo after the high school season.
