Created through a collaboration between administrators and ASB, the Brightest Light Award is presented to teachers who haven’t been previously recognized and consistently exude positivity and light on campus—Spanish teacher Amy Rewa, whose positive energy impacts the entire school community.
Being a new award for staff this year, Rewa was chosen as the first recipient after the administrators all agreed that her positivity stands out on campus.
Known for her supportive attitude with students and her involvement in school events, Rewa truly makes a difference at this school.
“Every time I see her, she always says hi with a smile, and it brightens my day,” sophomore Ellie Boele said.
When interviewed on how she felt receiving the award, Rewa stated that it made her feel honored and good about herself. Rewa explained that the recognition means a lot to her, knowing that she has helped so many students feel enlightened.
“It means a ton. I’m so glad there are people on this campus who have maybe felt encouraged by me at some point,” Rewa said.
PHS Administrators agreed that Rewa’s positive energy has a huge impact on the school campus, which made it easy to pick her as the first teacher to receive the Brightest Light Award. Assistant Principal Dominick Spylios spoke with many students about teachers who make them excited to come to school, and Rewa’s name kept coming up.
“Every time I see her, she is always filled with positive energy and is always kind to everyone, no matter the day,” Spylios said.
Each teacher who receives the Brightest Light award must add a special “memento” before that same teacher passes it on to the next teacher. Students in the teacher’s class will help choose something to add, making the award more special and meaningful.
“¡Muchísimas gracias! ¡Los quiero mucho!” Rewa said.
