The weather is starting to cool, as the scent of pumpkin spice lattes fills the air, but how will this harvest time be celebrated?  If you are looking for a scare, haunted houses are a great way to have some halloween fun. From haunts just around the corner, to possible real ghosts and ghouls, here are three Haunted houses around San Diego.

Close to home, the Clifford family celebrates this time of year by hosting a public haunted house in their home. The Cliffords have been hosting their haunted house near Painted Rock since 2008, and it is open three days a year. These festive fall days are yet to be determined this year. “They will probably be on the Monday of Halloween and the Saturday before,” freshman James Clifford said.

The Clifford family starts decorating around the beginning of October. “It is a lot of work, but I definitely think it’s worth it,” Clifford said. The haunted house trails through the driveway, garage, and other parts of the house. To enjoy this haunted house, you can go to the Cliffords residence at 13463 Calle Colina.

Another haunted San Diego Tradition is the Haunted Trail in Balboa Park. The trail was named in Top 5 Best Haunted Attraction in America by CNN.

Tickets include access to The eXperiment Maze and the haunted trail. The eXperiment Maze spans 3,500 square feet and the trailis one terrifying mile long.

The trail will be open most days through Oct.31. Tickets range from $27.99 to $39.99 and can be purchased online and at the event, but. On site purchases are not recommended, as tickets can sell out. The trail is rated for those above 10, and free parking is available. More information is available at hauntedtrail.net.

And of course, America’s Most Haunted House, The Whaley House in Old Town. It is not just any haunted house, it is a “real” haunted house, with many members of the Whaley family souls still rumored roaming the property. Learn about the history and the horror of the Whaley House on tours and paranormal investigations that  range from $13.30 to $94.05 and can be purchased on the Whaley House Website.

Get ready for a fright, if you visit these haunted locales, but always remember to stay safe and make good choices. Enjoy these haunted houses, have a scare, and get into the Halloween spirit.
