Swim goes to State

The varsity swim team had a great showing at the CIF Finals at Granite Hills on May 7, with 12 swimmers competing.
Leading the swim team, senior Adam Major competed in the 100-meter butterfly and the 500-meter freestyle. He recorded staggering times of 52.54 in the 100-meter butterfly, and a 4:58.40 in the 500-meter freestyle.
“I’ve been swimming competitively for thirteen years, and I was in varsity swim every year of high school,” Major said.
Major received an academic full ride scholarship at University of South Florida, where he plans on swimming for their club team.
Sophomore Ashlyn Hernandez has been rising through the ranks this season. During the CIF Finals, she was phenomenal in both the 200-meter individual medley and 100-meter breaststroke.
She recorded a fantastic time of 2:05.84 in the 200-meter individual medley, and another amazing time of 1:03.83 in the 100-meter breaststroke.
“I have been swimming for almost ten years. My favorite part of swim this season was league and the pasta parties,” Hernandez said.
Junior Logan Alsop also had strong races at Granite Hills. Alsop competed in the 100-meter breaststroke as well. She also competed in the 200-meter medley relay, where she did butterfly, and the 200-meter freestyle relay.
The medley relay she competed in finished with a time of 1:55.94 and the freestyle relay finished with a time of 1:46.64.
Alsop has been swimming for six years. She said her favorite part of the season was league and seeing everyone’s hard work pay off and get exceptional times.
