The crowd jumped and hollered as senior captain Morgan Kallman raced towards the goal. When the ball hit the back of the net the crowd got even louder, signifying the third goal scored of the night for Poway field hockey against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks.

“We have a really good team dynamic so we work together really well,” Kallman said.

The Titans took home the win with four goals total, making it their seventh win of the season in the first league game.

Poway had multiple chances throughout the first quarter, but only managed to score when the defense broke through the La Costa Canyon offensive line. With three seconds to go in the opening quarter, junior Kiara Bowser hit the net for Poway’s first goal of the night.

The Titans started out the second quarter attacking again as Rachel Sandstorm scored the second goal six minutes into the quarter. Poway led 2-0 at the half.

The excitement did not stop there for the Titans, as they doubled their lead in the third quarter with two scores from seniors Kallman and Alli Bell.

They finished their shutout victory with one last goal in the final quarter, tying their second-best goals in a single game so far this season. The team’s season record is seven goals. They made this record against Fountain Valley Sept. 25 in a neutral tournament victory.

With their first league win in the books, the girls’ field hockey team looks on to face tough league rivals at San Marcos and Fallbrook Oct. 12 and 19.
