A Change for Halloween

Masks no longer optional.

Has Halloween changed forever?  The coronavirus has changed how society interacts all over the country and how students interact at Poway High School.  Halloween is one of those events that has changed since the pandemic.

Not everyone is vaccinated and children under 12 cannot get vaccinated right now.  Trick-or-treating this year is going to be all about safety.

Kids can still trick or treat, but there are going to have to be safety precautions. Dr. Fauci was in an interview with CNN and he said ¨I think that particularly if you’re vaccinated, but you can get there, you’re outdoors for the most part, at least when my children were out there trick-or-treating.¨

It is not advised to have Halloween parties indoors.

Freshman Victor Garcia and his little sister are going to a Howl-O-Scream event at SeaWorld because they think it is safer to be outdoors.  “I believe it’s easier to have social distancing outside,” he said.

Victor describes his previous experience at the Howl-O-Scream event as breathtaking. “I was chased by zombies and clowns,” he said.

There are people who think it is too risky to hand out candy. Handing out candy at the door is not the safest thing to do because of the close contact.

Some houses used to have bowls of candy left out for Trick-Or -Treaters. With the Coronavirus it is not the safest thing to do because you have multiple people putting their hands in the bowl. What did they do last year? Candy chutes? Candy spread out on a table?

Freshman Edwin Martinez is staying home from trick or treating.  “My mom thought it would be way safer to stay home this Halloween and buy candy at the store,” he said.

Freshman Gabriel Shults thinks it would be better to get outdoors and trick-or-treat.  “I think it is great to take a break from isolating and staying indoors,” he said.

There are conflicting opinions across the student body. People are finding ways to enjoy halloween and still be safe. What will you do? Happy Halloween Titans!
