HOUSTON, TX – JANUARY 20: Christian Wood #35 of the Houston Rockets shoots the ball during the game against the Phoenix Suns on January 20, 2021 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

The NBA season started Dec. 22,  and we are already around 17 games into the season. Many teams believe they have a shot to  win it all this year, such as the Nets, Lakers, Clippers and Bucks.

Covid-19 has  already really affected the season. Many teams have had to sit stars — or half the team–  due to players testing positive or coming in contact with a positive player. With many players out that gives other players a chance to shine. One player has specifically stood: the Houston Rockets’Christan Wood.

Wood, a Power Forward with quick handles and athleticism, played last year for the Detroit Pistons. Many people did not know his name since he went undrafted and went under the radar. The Pistons were already eliminated from playoff contention when they gave Wood a shot. Many were shocked by how skilled and dominant the big man was in the small sample size of games. In the last 22 games with the Pistons he averaged 19.7 points per game and 8.1 rebounds. Despite the small sample size, however, most people were sold on him. He is very young and already has great touch for the game. He is fast and very athletic, he can give you 30 points on any given night.  This allowed him to sign a big contract with Houstonduring the off season.

The Houston Rockets have been through a lot already this season. Their star shooting guard James Harden demanded a trade in December?. This was shocking since Harden had been the franchise star for 8 years. After a lot of drama with the trade rumors, he was finally traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

All this, however, has not distracted Wood in the slightest. He has continued to shine amidst all the drama with the team. Wood is averaging 23.1 points per game and 10.1 rebounds per game. These are all star numbers and improved from last season. He continues proving to the world that he is a bonafide star in this league. If he continues this level of play throughout the whole season he can very well be an All-Star this year.
