WRESTLERS GET READY TO RUMBLE

This wrestling season is about to begin and our wrestling team is very excited.

The wrestling team holds 41 league titles, 37 CIF titles and 4 state titles. Being one of the best wrestling high school teams in the nation, wrestlers have been working hard to keep it that way.

Head coach John Myers is anxious for this upcoming season. He wants to see all the teams wrestlers to meet their personal goals this season and watch each become a better wrestler and person. As far as the team goes he has high expectations for his varsity team.

“We have 12 of our 14 starters back from last years team which was ranked 15 in the country,” Coach Myers said. This season we will also have two wrestlers, Andre Gonzo and Aaron Gandara, who are ranked in the top 20 nationally.

“I’m looking forward to all the tournaments this season and the competition they bring,” junior Andre Gonzales said. He is nationally ranked and recently he won the National Championship. One of the most dominant 106 pound wrestlers in the nation, he ranked 5th last season. Hoping to continue the domination performance on the mats, he has high expectations for him and the team.

Sophomore Chaz Harper recently joined the team from Mount Carmel. He’s been training with the team during the off season, getting prepared for this wrestling season. “We have been training hard and expect to do very well this year,” sophomore Chaz Harper said.

Freshmen coach Seth Rehn, is excited for his wrestlers as he has been training them in the gym lifting weights and practicing technique.

The Poway wrestling team is ready to prove why they are one of the best teams in the nation. They are ready and hope to gain another state title.
