Every year, ASB holds a competition to see who can come up with the most creative way to ask their date to prom. This year, there were eight promposals sent in to theInstagram account.. Students can follow the account and like whichever post they want.
Seniors Johnny Hoffman and Victoria Johnson won the competition with 338 likes on their promposal post. Hoffman asked Johnson to prom with the help of the baseball team after their game that Johnson went to watch. They held up posters spelling out prom in the back of their photo, and Johnson turned around to reveal the surprise. Hoffman and Johnson will celebrate their two year dating anniversary in June.
Hoffman wanted to ask in a thoughtful way while still maintaining the surprise.
“I was trying to think of a clever way to ask her without her having a clue, so I told her to stay after my baseball game to ‘take a picture’ with her, then I surprised her with flowers and signs asking to go to prom,” Hoffman said.
The surprise was a success, “I was not expecting it at all and was shocked because he always ruins surprises,” Johnson said.
In second place with 248 votes was junior Marco Baker and senior Nicole Yamada. Baker asked Yamada at the Del Mar cliffs, with a sign that said “I couldn’t sand prom without you.” When Yamada looked over the cliff, she saw “PROM?” spelled out with candles in the sand.
Baker had the help of his older sister and her boyfriend to set up the candles, and had been thinking of the idea for a while.
“We used to go to the cliff in Del Mar to watch the sunset all the time, and then since her senior photos were at the beach, it was perfect,” Baker said.
In third place were seniors Brandon Sawyer and Naomi Bliss, who had 268 votes.
Brandon planned out a scavenger hunt promposal for Bliss after she got out of work. She was surprised by the complexity of the promposal.
“I didn’t expect the surprise at all. I had just gotten out of work, and I had Facetimed Brandon when I was on the way to my car, and apparently that’s when he was driving right past me after leaving the first hint. I got out of work earlier than normal, so he had to rush. I was expecting a promposal more like face-to-face, but getting it in a scavenger hunt was something I didn’t expect at all, but I loved it!” Bliss said.
The winners received two free prom tickets.
