Thumbs Down:
PDA
School is a place for receiving an education, not public displays of affection (PDA). When walking down the hallway, it is not a pleasant sight to see students committing acts that should not be seen in public. There’s truly no reason students should be making out or cuddling each other on the floor in the hallway at any point in time at school. It’s inappropriate, and the rules against PDA at Poway High need to be regularly enforced.
Teachers not playing Titan TV
Broadcast Journalism students work hard to create a program for everyone to enjoy. When teachers decide not to show Titan TV, it can allow students to miss out on announcements.
Changing the schedule to extend the third period specifically to watch Titan TV but then proceeding to not show it defeats the whole purpose. Titan TV covers things more in-depth than they do on the regular morning announcements, and it’s really helpful, so when teachers don’t show it, students are missing out on information.
Thumbs up:
Third period Wrestling for beginners
Wrestling is opening up a new opportunity for those interested in joining. Any student can join the new third-period wrestling class, even if they are a beginner and have no prior experience.
Poway High and its nationally recognized wrestling program could be intimidating to beginners, especially when there was so many cuts during try outs. By keeping the Varsity wrestlers in their fifth-period class and creating a third-period class for beginners it broadens everyone’s experience and willingness to try new things. It also allows students to feel comfortable joining and be willing to try something they have always wanted to, but may have been too uncomfortable to in the past.
Finals Schedule
The trimester one finals schedule is an improvement compared to last year’s. It provides enough time between finals to decompress from the previous final and have time to prepare for the next one. The schedule does not feel as rushed as it has felt in past trimesters, which will allow for a less stressful and more focused finals week. During finals week there are no more than two finals a day, a late start on Wednesday, a late start and tutorial period on Thursday, and an early release on Friday. Having opportunities to prep during class before taking the final will be extremely beneficial.
