With flags tossed onto the ground, opponents tried to catch up to senior MacKenzie Arnold as she rushed to the endzone and secured the final touchdown needed to win against Mission Hills on Sept. 22.
Girls’ flag football has had a winning 10-6 season.
Varsity Flag Football Coach David Arnold said new rules were introduced this year, and the game completely changed, yet the girls have adjusted well. “We had to change our entire playbook, and the team had to learn blocking schemes, including run blocking schemes and screen blocking,” Arnold said.
Arnold has been coaching various girls’ sports for decades and loves the game and building a team. His daughter, MacKenzie Arnold, thinks the team has good chemistry and has grown really well since the start.
“The team takes game time seriously and gives it everything. That being said, some of my best memories with this team have been when we switch into fun mode, and the girls make some crazy plays and laugh with teammates,” MawcKenzie Arnold said.
In Division 1, they play the best teams in San Diego. They are currently ranked fourth in the Avocado League, 2-2.
Varsity freshman, Kenzie Biste, plays receiver and quarterback. “I like that I get a lot of opportunities to catch balls and block the rusher,” Biste said.
On Oct. 6, they played Vincent Memorial High School, winning, 47-28. Flag Football’s next game is on Oct.14 against Torrey Pines High School.
