Imagine balancing multiple sports, school, work, social and family life every day. That’s Hailey Vermilyea’s life summed up.
As one of the captains, senior Hailey Vermilyea plays running back, contain, and receiver for the new Varsity Flag Football team.
She also plays outside back or outside winger and is captain for club soccer at SDSC Surf.
With these two main sports, she has also participated in the high school track and field along with being the kicker for the football team from freshman through junior year.
“Hailey is an outstanding teammate. She is inspiring and she is really enjoyable to be around,” Vermilyea’s teammate senior Lulu Foote said. “The ability to be a great friend and flip when it comes to game time puts a positive impact on the team”.
Vermilyea is energetic and kind, she has earned a leadership role not only in her sports teams but with her teammates.
“She shows leadership by hyping everyone up and helping people when they need it, she always thinks about others before herself,” Junior Mackenize Arnold said.
Vermilyea has won multiple awards for her leadership. “I have won The Titan Pride award for soccer, most valuable sprinter for track, and the special teams player of the year award for football,” Vermilyea said.
These sports are only a small part of her life. Still balancing school, friends, and family, Vermilyea says “With how busy it can get, I have to prioritize what’s important. I try and set time aside to get schoolwork done. When I’m not at school or practice or work, I use my free time to hang out with my family and friends.”
Vermilyea recently committed to play D1 soccer at the University of San Diego Vermilyea chose USD because “of the new coaching staff they got this year. They were all extremely passionate about the game and they are excited about the program’s future. The location being in San Diego is amazing because it’s close to the beach and I know I love it here”.
