As the sun starts to set on a golf green, the Poway High Varsity Girls Golf team leaves the game, smiles on their faces, knowing they secured another win.
Varsity girls golf started strong with a 8-0, having no recorded losses yet as of this year.
They beat such strong schools as Mission Hills (255-239) and Westview (228-220)
A player known as senior Rachel Lu has had a lot of fun playing for Poway, “All the girls are super sweet and we all care for each other,” Lu said.
The team’s biggest wins were against Francis Parker High School, on August 28, where they scored 221 to 250, and Ramona High School, on September 12, where they scored 265 to 197.
Varsity coach, Coach James Cassidy, said “The decision to choose Rachel [for team captain] was easy as she is a natural leader and a great mentor for the younger players,” Cassidy said. “It has been my pleasure to watch her grow as a golfer and as a person over the last three years.”
Junior Emma Bush gives credit for the team’s success to their close bond as a team, “The team is small, so you get to know everyone super well and we’re all super close. Nothing is more fun than the van ride home after a win.” Bush said.
