After former Head Coach Kyle Williams resigned to focus more on his family, students wondered who would lead the Varsity Boys’ Football team next season.
After a search, with interviews last week, a final decision was reached on Feb. 9.
Brandon Harris, former head coach and offensive coordinator for high schools in Arizona, California, Florida, and New York, was appointed varsity boys football head coach.
Harris played wide receiver for Leuzinger High School and then earned a scholarship to play for the University of Idaho. Due to his extreme athletic ability, Harris was invited to the Miami Dolphins’ and Denver Broncos’ training camps.
Eventually, Harris Joined the World League of American Football (WLAF) with the Sacramento Surge.
“Poway High is excited to have coach Harris lead our program. Coach has an outstanding reputation for building student-athletes character through hard work, dedication, and effort. His mentorship and guidance will lead the Titans into a new era of Poway Football,” Gonzalez said.
Harris is a very successful head coach and offensive coach, with six state championships. Currently, Harris is a resident of Rancho Bernardo with two daughters and one son.
“I took the position because of the rich history of Poway football,” Harris said. “They have a passion about the game. As well as a very supportive administration.”
He said he also values the program’s commitment to athletics. “At this stage in my career I don’t take any position where they don’t want to build up young men and women to be champions,” Harris said.
