Picturing the P-Town without the P

Titans were given a survey in homerooms on Aug. 25,  to change the logo design for the long standing “P” of PHS. Although change may feel absolute, the P is not disappearing forever, but just merely being shifted into a larger group of symbols that exemplify PHS.

Due to a district decision to identify the legality for branding for the school, the logo is being changed to prevent outside vendors from selling the logo and profiting monetarily. In this, the school was met with the legality conflict of the “P” appearing too similar to that of Purdue University and wanted to avoid any misunderstandings.

“The logo that was adopted by the district was dissatisfying, so I opened up the conversation to ask the students which one of the two we should use temporarily,” Principal Richard Nash said.

The cause of the logo change was abruptly incited; and per request of Principal Richard Nash, the deciding logo was surveyed to students in a timely manner as well. Over time the old logo will be phased out and the change will be incorporated schoolwide.

Having seen the logo throughout her four years at Poway, senior Keyli Salgado said,“Especially being a senior I feel more used to the old logo, but this being the first year they introduced it I think there’s still room for improvement.”

For the time being, the logo will be the icon used by the E-Sports team and Titan Terrors. The logo was made as a collaboration between Aaron Jaffee and students to develop a branding for the E-Sports team.

But this logo is not set in stone and a contest will be held soon for students to submit their designs to be added to the PHS logos according to Nash. When finalized, the logo will be replaced on the football field, around school, in the student merchandise stores, and fully represent the campus and Titan pride.

My favorite sections to write for are Feature and Pop Culture. Outside of the Iliad, I love to act, watch rom-coms, and go thrifting. My favorite quote is from Little Women. “Life and love are very precious when both are in full bloom,” by Louisa May Alcott. In the future, I will be a star. (Class of 2024)
