Typing towards her future, senior Miah Garcia creates journalism  pieces to share with the community. Garcia signed up freshman year for journalism because she did not know what else to do, but once she was in the class, Garcia knew she was in the right place.

“It inspired me to continue a career in journalism,” Garcia said. Miah loves writing and wants to pursue journalism in the real world when she is older.

TeriAnne Libby, the journalism and yearbook director at Poway High, is a huge inspiration to Miah. Libby has taught Garcia everything she needs to know about journalism. “She has a great work ethic and a positive attitude all the time,” Libby said.

On Aug. 6, Garcia spent 6 hours writing over the weekend for her first two articles. She has written three articles since she started her internship. She started her internship on Aug. 5 and published her first two articles Aug. 10

Garcia reached out to one of the editors at Poway Chieftain and had to reach out a second time for a response. She met at a coffee shop to interview and they accepted her right away.

Iliad is not only about writing it is also about meeting people. “Miah is a great person to work with because she is very helpful and is fun to be around,” fellow Iliad editor Amanda Edwards said.

After her internship is at the Poway News Chieftain over she might want to try and interview for the San Diego Union Tribune

Garcia loves expanding her knowledge of journalism and is grateful that she enrolled in the class freshman year.
