New historical drama movie, “The Last Duel,” will make you feel like you’re in 14th century France. This movie is based on true events about a trial by combat, hence “The Last Duel”.

It is a movie adaptation of the book; “The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France,” by Eric Jager. This movie was filmed in several locations in France and Ireland, which makes it look as if it was filmed in the 14th century. Some say this movie had repetitive story structure, but was an exciting and well-acted drama. What stood out the most was the music, fight scenes, and how all the actors were amazing. When Carrouges’ wife Marguerite de Carrouges, played by Jodie Comer, gets assaulted by Le Gris, she accuses her attacker out of bravery and defiance, but it puts her life in danger. Carrouges challenges Le Gris to a duel to the death. At the time it was believed that battling to the death in a duel meant God would decide who was telling the truth.

The music in “The Last Duel,” made by Harry Gregson-Williams, was very fitting and I could feel the suspense, awaiting what would happen next in the story.

This movie builds up to a bloody duel between Knight Sir Jean de Carrouges, played by Matt Damon, and Squire Jacques Le Gris, played by Adam Driver.

I liked how the whole movie led up to the duel that Carrouges and Le Gris had. Also there was a good story behind the duel because some movies make the action outweigh the story. I was surprised to see Le Gris and Carrouges fight because they were such close friends, they were so close that Le Gris was made Godfather to Carrouges eldest son.

Overall, the new historical drama movie, “The Last Duel,” directed by Ridley Scott, was a great movie and had amazing acting.
