Winning returns for Poway

These are the latest results for Poway’s varsity athletic teams that have returned through Mar. 3.

Cross Country:

Boys’ cross country started off their schedule Feb. 13 with a dual meet with San Marcos. Poway won by a team score of 31-26. They won 34-22 at Westview (Feb. 20) and 35-22 against Mt. Carmel (Feb. 27).

Girls’ cross country started out with a 39-19 loss against San Marcos. Poway lost 50-15 at Westview and lost 23-32 at Mt. Carmel.

The boys’ have gone 3-0 to start the season, as the girls are 0-3 through the first three meets. The next dual meet will come Mar. 6 at home versus Del Norte before facing Rancho Bernardo Mar. 13 in the regular-season finale. The North County Championships will be run Mar. 20.

Field Hockey:

The Poway High Field Hockey squad played their first game Mar. 3, taking a 3-1 victory over rival Mt. Carmel. Sophomore Abbey Skale scored two goals while junior Morgan Kallmann scored once for the Poway Titans. Sophomore Destiny Valle saved eight of nine shots for the victory.

Girls’ Golf:

Girls’ golf opened with a loss to Coronado on Feb. 22. They also lost to Oceanside on Mar. 1.

“They played well under tough conditions,” Head Coach Jim Bennett said. It was very windy for the golfers as winds stormed through San Diego County.

Unfortunately for the team, their five players will soon drop to four, and Poway will be forced to forfeit their remaining games because each school must have five players to record the score.

However, Poway golfers will still be able to move on individually in the CIF individual playoffs.

Swim & Dive:

Swim and Dive started out the season Feb. 25 against Sage Creek. Girls’ swim came out victorious by a score of 101-81, while boys’ swim lost by a massive margin, 62-108. Morgan Thompson led the girls’ dive team with a score of 251.7, while Connor Curtin led the boys’ dive team with a score of 185.8.
