This year’s Super Bowl featured a marquee matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and their high powered offense versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and their stingy defense. Things already looked glum for Chiefs fans when they found out Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback, was playing on an injured toe that needed surgery.

The Chiefs went into the game with two back-ups playing at both right and left tackle, arguably one of the most important positions on the offense. The game started with the Chiefs kicking off to the Buccaneers, and Tom Brady, considered by many to be the greatest player of all time, walked onto the field and appeared in his 10th superbowl.

Both the Buccaneers and the Chiefs were unable to move the ball much on offense in the first ten minutes of the game, trading punts back and forth. Finally the Chiefs were able to find a gap in the Bucs defense and got a decent chunk play, which resulted in a field goal, making it 3-0 Chiefs. With thirty seven seconds left in the first quarter, Brady finds Rob Gronkowski, his tight end, in the back of the endzone for a touchdown, which gives the Bucs a 7-3 lead. They never lost said lead.

Then in the second quarter both teams would begin to trade possessions again. The Buccaneers’ defense was looking a little scary as they were starting to pressure Mahomes a lot. Then with six minutes left in the second quarter, Brady and Gronkowski connected again for their second touchdown, giving the Bucs a 14-3 lead. Mahomes was able to orchestrate a long drive downfield which led to another field goal with 1:04 on the clock. Brady answers by engineering a long drive of his own, and leads the Bucs 75 yards down field, eventually finding wide receiver Antonio Brown in the endzone for another touchdown, making it 21-6 at half.

Starting the third quarter, the Chiefs are able to move the ball down field and are able to score yet another field goal, and this would be the last points they score, making it 21-9 Bucs. The Buccaneers answered with a long drive capped off by a 27 yard scamper from running back Leonard Fournette, which resulted in another touchdown, making it 28-9.

The Buccaneers defense proved to be too much for the Chiefs, as Patrick Mahomes was scrambling for his life trying to make something happen every play. The Buccaneers finish the game by scoring two more field goals, making the final score 33-9.

Brady won his seventh Super Bowl, more than any other franchise, let alone person, solidifying himself as an all time great.

This game was a disappointment in my eyes as the chiefs were going in without their two starters at a very important position. This game proved that offensive tackle is a top four priority need in an offense.
