Ways to Stay Healthy During Quarantine

While stuck at home, it may be difficult to find motivation to stay active and healthy.  Without having organized sports or activities, Titans have to take their health and fitness into their own hands.

Many students are getting their blood pumping by regularly exercising.  Going on runs, walks, and bike rides are helping them stay active while following the rules of social distancing.  “I’ve been going on runs around my neighborhood and I’ve been biking,” freshman Elizabeth Wilson said.

At-home workouts are also an option that can be guided by downloading workout apps such as Nike Training Club and 7 Minute Workout.  They are a great way to get exercise while staying inside and practicing social distancing.  “There are many apps from yoga, to weight training, to cardiovascular activity that we choose from to lead an active lifestyle during this pandemic,” athletic director Damian Gonzalez said.

Exercising isn’t the only way to stay healthy, eating habits are a contributing factor as well.  Eating fruits, veggies, and healthy fats such as avocados are a good way to improve your habits. “I’ve been able to eat more fruits and veggies and good breakfasts,” freshman Richard Obert said

Sunny, relaxing walks are a good way to get some much-needed fresh air.  Taking walks is a way to have a fun, low-energy workout that gets you outside. “I take my dogs on a walk and get to clear my mind,”  freshman Kaliyah Adei-manu said.

Speaking of relaxation, getting enough sleep and staying on a regular sleeping schedule is important.  With no school, keeping a solid sleeping schedule may be difficult.  Going to bed and waking up at a reasonable time helps keep it consistent. “I pretty much go to bed at the same time but wake up later so I’ve been getting more sleep,” junior Jack Vande Berg said.

With nothing but time, Titans have a chance to explore new healthy habits.
