Anxiously waiting around the N-5 building, a crowd of students formed, trying to get a good view of the homecoming theme and location reveal. Homecoming Spirit Week Oct. 13-17 will set the mood for the Oct. 17 game against Del Norte and the Oct. 18 dance.
The Homecoming will take place 7-10 pm at Broadway Pier/Port Pavilion downtown on Harbor Drive.
Each day of spirit week has a theme based on one of the musicals attached to the airband performances. Monday, dress out as Wicked, in green or pink. For Tuesday’s Mama Mia theme, Titans will dress up in European vacation wear. On Wednesday, they may wear hats and sunglasses inspired by the musical Annie. Thursday’s Grease theme will have bikers or “pink ladies” attire. Friday is devoted to green and gray.
At the Friday assembly in the gym, Airbands teams will perform dances based on the musicals. Freshmen will dance to music from Mamma Mia, sophomores to Annie, juniors to Grease, and seniors to Wicked.
That night, football faces Del Norte and Airbands will perform again at the end of the game. At the Saturday dance, “the theme perfectly matches the location,” according to senior ASB president Mimi Nugent. The venue is on the harbor with large, floor-to-ceiling glass windows facing San Diego Bay and the Coronado skyline. “There is going to be a little meet and greet with Broadway characters,” ASB Director Rangel said.
They will be showing a movie outside on the back deck of the venue and there will be a caricature artist.
“We’re going to have a different type of DJ display that we’ve never done before,” Rangel said. “It will be an immersive experience for students.”
