While walking out of the band quad gates to enjoy a lunch off campus, you are stopped in your tracks by campus security because even though you have fourth and fifth off roll stickers, you don’t have an off campus pass, so you must wait until lunch is over.
This started happening to many students this year, with campus security strictly enforcing the rules.
Students have also noticed more frequent checking of student IDs. At lunch, juniors and seniors are allowed to go off campus, and while exiting and entering, rity now requires every student to stop in their tracks to make sure they either have a silver off-campus pass to leave at lunch, even if they have fourth and fifth period off. This is to prevent students without permission from leaving and non-students from entering campus, but the problem with this checking is the unnecessary conflicts it causes with students.
When IDs were first issued, many students got a rude awakening because they assumed with a fourth and fifth off roll sticker, they could leave at lunch. But, unfortunately they received a stern announcement by security for not having an off campus lunch sticker. The treatment of the students without their stickers by security was unexpected and upsetting because of the close relationships many security people have with the students.
On the day the IDs were distributed, if students wanted an off campus lunch sticker, they were required to go through a complicated process that took multiple days.
First, students without access to a printer had to wait in line in the office to pick up their paperwork. Then, they had to take that paperwork home to be completed by their parents.
After completing the forms, they had to wait in line to turn in the paper with the School Administration Specialist, BB Surarujiroj. Surarujiroj then had to email each student’s parent and send them a form to confirm they signed permission for their child to leave campus. Once the parent completed the form, students could finally go and wait in line to receive their pass.
This prevented students from leaving campus, in some cases restricting them from getting to their jobs, or attending to after school responsibilities.
If the process had been smoother, these students with after school responsibilities would have not faced any trouble.
