Senior football players Luke Jorgensen and Colin Raibert are setting new records. At 6′ 1 and,185-pounds running back and safety Jorgensen has a 26.7 kickoff return average. He is ranked 113th in the state for overall stats and 125th nationally with 834 yards of rushing throughout his four years, and 2,763 yards in his two years on varsity.
Jorgensen cherishes his team bonds.
“Overall, the football season has been great. My favorite memory has been hanging out with the team at team dinners. I’m most looking forward to the playoffs and spending more time with the guys,” Jorgensen said.
A 6 ‘5 247-pound kicker and defender, Raibert has stepped up into the spot of being the kicker for the team as well as making insane tackles on the other teams. He leaves his mark, especially against Ramona, with five solo tackles. Along with that, he is ranked nationally 106th and has 1,688 kickoff yards. Raibert makes the ball fly with his big kicks.
“I have enjoyed being able to have the opportunity to play as Poway’s kicker. Something I have accomplished was setting my own record for kicking the ball far, in the semi-finals last year, because they could not stop us,” Raibert said.
Varsity head coach Brandon Harris describes Jorgensen and Raibert as skilled and talented players who benefit the team in extremely positive ways. “Jorgensen would come at 5:30 a.m. to upgrade his body skills. He did these meetings in January for his winter work. He has improved himself and improved our team in the process,” Harris said.
He describes Raibert as hardworking in a short amount of time. Harris finds Raibert impressive as he had only started playing football in his freshman year. “Colin transformed himself; he was previously a soccer player who wanted to try football for many years. His parents were reluctant to let him play until high school, but he was able to set and reach the goals he made for himself, making him a multiple Division I scholarship-offer athlete,” Harris said.
Varsity Football is currently 3-3 overall, and 1-0 in league. They play away against the 3-3 Torrey Pines Falcons tonight at 7 p.m.
