The ball is flying through the air in the first game of the season, and he catches it and makes the winning touchdown. Senior Noah Schuback is no stranger to the game of football, having been the varsity quarterback with eight years of experience before coming to Poway High. He said his main influence to play for Poway is his older brother, Reid Schuback, who also played for Poway. “I got to watch him grow up and play football here,” Schuback said.
Schuback played with Poway Pop Warner for five years to build a strong foundation to build on in high school.’ Schuback’s favorite memory was winning the state semifinals in Alabama against Hoover High School when he was at his old school, Melisa High School in Texas. He moved there to be closer to his brother at Ole Miss. His love for football runs generations deep, and Schuback’s biggest inspiration is his dad because he had played football in college at the University.
Another reason Schuback chose to play at Poway is because of the head varsity Coach, Brandon Harris. “I just like how he runs the offense and what they did last year,” Schuback said.
Varsity Head Coach Brandon Harris started last year at Poway, leading his Boys to the Division II CIF Championships, winning 62-24. “He wants to win, and he is not afraid of the moment, which is a rare quality,” Harris said.
Some of Schuback’s best qualities are controlling the ball and making hard passes to teammates in games, according to Harris. “He can fit the ball into a tight window, and he makes it catchable for the team,” Harris said.
One of Harris’s favorite memories with Schuback was in the first game of the season against Scripps Ranch, where they won 41- 6.”Where we have what we call a read option, he pulled the ball from Luke and took it 78 yards. We got the chance to see his athleticism and speed,” Harris said.
Since Schuback has only been playing Poway football for a short time, he seems to have really made an impact on the team with 2 wins already. The first game was against Scripps Ranch with a final score of 41-6, and a win against Ramona with the score of 48-15. Since college football is such an important thing to him and his family, Schuback has big plans to continue football throughout college and possibly into the NFL. He already has offers from Ole Miss University, Troy University, Marshal University, Purdue University, Virginia Tech University, Colorado State University, Texas Tech University, and the University of Texas at San Antonio.
