Thumbs Up:
Bringing back food options:
Ever since COVID-19, students have been longing for more lunchtime food options. Thankfully, this year we saw some of these come back.
Now the cafeteria offers more Izzy flavors, ice cream options, multiple Gatorade flavors, and many other snacks we did not see last year. It is nice to see things coming back that were once taken away.
Spikeball in the middle hallway on Fridays:
Students love to see a fun activity going on during break and lunch. Introducing a game of Spikeball to the main hallway on Fridays is an entertaining and lighthearted way to spend free time at school. It gives students a place to play a game with their friends, have fun, and maybe even exercise during the school day. We are appreciative to have it available to us.
Thumbs Down:
Lack of Paper Supplies
Students rush to the bathroom during lunch, only to be disappointingly met with a long line. They finally get into the stall, and when they reach for toilet paper, their heart drops, there is none. They figure it out and then go to dry their hands, and then again, are sad to see there is no paper towel.
This is what happens trying to go to the bathroom later in the day. The bathrooms are beautifully stocked in the morning, but trying to go later in the day is hard if it’s not restocked. The lack of these products is due to them not being restocked, but maybe even more so because the students misuse them. Titans must do better if they want a comfortable school and bathroom.
No AC in gym, temp moderation
Sweat trickles down your face, and your cheeks beat with redness. This is what PE feels like at Poway High during the months of August to October, where temperatures can climb past 90 degrees. Students should not be required to do physical activity during these extreme temperatures.
Some teachers may recognize this and move their class inside the gym. But, even in the gym, students find little refuge, as it has no air conditioning, and with an influx of students entering the gym, it can be hotter inside than outside.
PUSD should have better cutoffs for when it is too hot and humid to participate in PE activities or provide an air conditioned alternative for students to get exercise.
