Focused, senior Connor Liddle stands at the edge of the diving board, ready for his dive.
Liddle, in his fourth year on Varsity, jumps swiftly into the water for the one-meter dive.
Liddle is motivated by his love for flips, such as the foreword twist and the backwards twist.
“I love doing flips, and I’ve always loved diving. My coach has helped me get better, and my teammates are chill. They have improved a lot in so little time,” Liddle said.
Varsity swim coach Michelle Ford has seen his success.
“He’s more dive, but I got to be there for his state meet, and he did so great. He made it through all three rounds and placed 14th, I’m very proud of him. I can’t wait to see where he goes,” Ford said.
Athletic director Damian Gonzalez has been trying to get Liddle recognized for his talents.
“He’s done an incredible job as a diver. It’s crazy what he can do, and I think he should get attention for the amazing things he does,” Gonzalez said.
On May 7, Liddle placed first for the San Diego Division I Championships with a one-meter dive with 264 points and a score of 20.
Last year, Liddle achieved his personal best, with a score of two at the CIF Division I Championships.
Currently, Liddle is committed to the University of Wyoming for Division I Swim and Dive.

My favorite sections to write about are features and sports. I like getting to know people, learning new things, and helping get people’s stories out. I enjoy playing soccer, reading, and taking photographs outside of the Iliad. My first soccer season at Poway was great, I made so many new friendships, and I learned a lot in the process. In the future, I would like to continue playing soccer, attend a four-year university, and live by the beach. (Class of 2028)
