As the weather gets warmer and classes start to wind down, many students are wondering, “What can I do over the summer that will actually keep me occupied?”
Students might also take advantage of nature locally, especially beaches. Some popular beaches nearby are Del Mar, Torrey Pines, La Jolla, Mission Beach, and Coronado.
“In the summer, I encourage people to hang out with their friends at the beach and have new experiences to create more memories. People can go to the beach, an arcade, and the bowling alley,” freshman Fredrick (Freddie) Castro said.
Summer also gives people more chances to travel.
“I am excited to go to Hawaii because it is a gorgeous island and I’m excited to go vist to my family,” junior Lucy Malin said.
The Del Mar fair is a popular site in the summer with roller coasters, food stands, games, souvenirs, and more.
This year it runs June 11 to July 6, but it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The Fair opens at 11 a.m. and closes at 11 p.m., but the gates close at 10 p.m.
San Diego also has a beautiful baseball stadium at Petco Park. Many use summer games as a time to sit back, eat peanuts, and watch a game.
The Padres have a record of 31-23 as of May 28, so students will likely get to watch their home team win.
The summer is also a great time to explore and improve passions.
“I’m planning to make the most of my summer by utilizing extra time to improve my technique in dance. Summer dance is a great opportunity for me to improve my strength and flexibility, and I’m excited to start back into the new season after summer ends,” freshman Audrey Waasted said.
