The clock slowly ticked on the Friday before break. Students struggled with the pile of work that was assigned for their classes while impatiently waiting for the end of the day to start their week off of school. Teachers should not assign tests, labs or a bunch of hard assignments because students are looking forward to break and feel unmotivated to make the assignments not get done.
On the day before a break, teachers expect students to stay focused on their work and turn it in that week, but students tend to put their work aside until they return from break. Before break, teachers like to finish the unit with a test before break but a lot of teachers end up giving their test on the same day and it turns out like finals.
The Fridays before a week off of school usually make students feel unmotivated to complete schoolwork. Instead, they are full of energy for the following week to come.
When tests are set for students to take the Friday before break, many students feel unmotivated to study which makes the day harder to get through.
With the mad rush of finishing up assignments to end the unit of each class, having large assignments and tests before break makes students feel rushed and not ready for their test. Many end up not studying at all.
Tests should be given after break to give students the time to study for tests instead of feeling rushed and stressed to study before break when students are not motivated in the first place. This gives them the opportunity to do better on tests.
Usually Fridays before break feel dreadful and hard to get through. Many even choose not to go to their classes on that Friday because of the lack of motivation and energy to do the pile of assignments given to them that week.
Because of the break coming and classes trying to get done with the unit, the pile of assignments are more than usual and cause students to feel more stressed than excited before break. For example, science classes have labs, worksheets, notes and tests that have to be finished in a span of one week and AP classes like psychology where it is a note taking heavy class with assignments that you need to be physically and mentally present.
Teachers should keep in mind the amount of assignments that they give their students the Friday before break and when the tests are given out. With all the tests that are assigned the Friday before break it ends up feeling like finals. This will help students be present and more motivated with less assignments that they are able to finish and tests students are able to study for before break begins.
