The Golden Globes returned Jan. 5 for its 82 annual awards show, and this year’s host, Niki Glaser caused some commotion. 

Glaser has been a comedian for years but gained most of her popularity when she appeared on the roast of Tom Brady. Since then she’s been known not to hold back when it comes to her jokes.

Her opening monologue caused a lot of discussion on social media. One of her most popular jokes was, “Welcome to the 82nd Golden Globes, Ozempic’s biggest night,¨ Glaser said.

Glaser isn’t one to sugarcoat her jabs and she definitely did not change that for the Golden Globes. 

Some people think Glaser should cool it down with her jokes, claiming she is mean and doesn’t deserve her platform. Personally, I think those people just do not like to see a successful woman thriving in her career. 

Sometimes award shows can be boring, and most of the time that depends on the host. Glaser did an amazing job at keeping the crowd active and engaged.

I enjoyed all of her jokes, but my favorites referred to Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s recent engagement. “She’s here tonight with her new fiancé, Benny Blanco. Yes, and Benny Blanco is here because of the Genie who granted him that wish,” Glaser said. 

Another joke landed when the camera pans over to Timothée Chalamet, and she joked, “Can I just say you have the most gorgeous eyelashes on your upper lip.” Glaser said, referring to his mustache.

After Glaser’s impressive performance at the 82nd Golden Globes, I can’t wait to see what she does next. This definitely made me a fan, and I hope she hosts other award shows in the future.
