President Donald Trump was inaugurated to office on Jan. 20. He kept his promise to make changes as soon as he got into office, and he has been quick to make them. Trump ordered a freeze on federal loans, grants, and financial assistance. Meaning that the federal government could not provide money to people in the United States who use government-funded services like providing students help with paying for their education. This freeze threatened many programs such as ones that promote equity and diversity. I believe that this freeze was unfair because it ruins many peoples lifestyle and makes it difficult to provide for people and their families.
Many people who supported this freeze believed that it would help the government not spend as much money and their tax money is going to a good cause for the country. I disagree with this because the government will still spend money on the samw things as before.
One group that could be affected are University students. They were warned that there could be a delay in federal aid, which can be dangerous to many students who cannot access aid otherwise. Students who rely on FAFSA will also struggle, including Poway High students, because many use FAFSA since it supports not only parents but students who use this aid to help after they graduate and go off to college or work.
State governments also rely on federal funding grants to maintain their state. Poway highschool benefits from federal programs because we are funded with both special education grants and
Some federal funds are legally allowed, but there are still some limitations, This is because a federal judge had temporarily blocked the funding freeze. People are worried about this because it may violate the Constitution 5th amendment because it shuld not be assumed that the public agrees with this freeze. This funding freeze should not pass because it negatively affects so many U.S. citizens by ruining many of their chances to get even a little bit of money to live off of.
