Students walking from first to second period notice the problems on need to take better care of our school, including both the elevator and the water fountain.
The water fountains are used by students every day. Not everyone brings a water bottle to school because they rely on the fountains, or they may just forget theirs. These fountains are also useful for refilling water bottles that become empty throughout the day.
We need to notify the school so they know and fix these problems.
The water fountains need to be upgraded and cleaned. Some start shaking when people use them because they are so old or haven’t been reported to a teacher, and others don’t work at all. Others are gross with dirt and algae on them and either needs to be replaced or deep cleaned. A water fountain next to the dance room has algae growing on it. People who refuse to drink from a disgusting water fountain could be at risk for dehydration.
Elevators also cause problems for students with disabilities when they need to use them.
The elevators were meant for people who needed access to and from the second floor without using the stairs. Unfortunately, the elevators are dirty and sometimes closed because of student misconduct in the elevators. Students with an injury or disability sometimes have to ask an adult to unlock them, which may be annoying because they are already struggling to walk while just trying to get to class like everyone else. However, the administration is forced to lock the elevator because people take advantage of the elevator and abuse it. Kids will leave trash in the elevator instead of walking a couple of steps to a trash can, which is extremely disrespectful to the school.
The issue is that we need to take better care of the school. It is not the custodial staff’s fault, and students need to take responsibility. We need to clean up our trash and not throw random things into the water fountains and elevators that can ruin it.
