Day-to-day students have many assignments in various classes, helping to teach them and prepare them for life after high school.
New-age tools and technology such as Chat GPT and other forms of AI have been incorporated into this system for better or worse, aiding students with assignments and helping them understand the material. However, some teachers have banned Artificial Intelligence (AI), in classes wanting students to exercise their brains without outside help from an online source.
Some students abuse AI, using it to complete their entire assignment as opposed to helping them understand the material, resulting in teachers being wary of the use of it. Many administrators consider cheating, for example, asking AI to write an essay for you in English as opposed to doing it independently.
I believe AI is a helpful tool if used right, helping with targeted searches more than search engines like Google, and providing quick and easy information on the topic you search to make the classroom a more helpful environment for learning.
Using AI in a school setting can be dangerous, as searching up direct answers to homework questions and writing essays is not academically honest and shorts students’ learning of knowledge and experience.
On Certain assignments AI is appropriate to research hard questions, such as a solution to an “unsolvable problem” for years in math, however, it is not appropriate to use AI to write an essay.
AI has been constantly updated and improved to help us in every aspect of life, it is used in databases and used to solve complex problems. For everyday use, I think it is a very positive thing for societal growth.
Another concern is the reliability and accuracy of AI sources that could lack recent updates and errors made by an AI. Incorporating AI more often into the classroom could potentially short teachers from doing their job or give conflicting ideas about what the teacher is teaching.
I believe AI can be a helpful tool to aid students in the classroom, giving them examples or correcting their work, it has countless uses. AI applications should be used in schools to help students improve their work, but should not be abused for assignments.
