The library has a new Library Technician. Boheme Morris was hired at the beginning of November to help with things such as Chromebooks and any malfunction that may occur.
Morris also makes new IDs for students and helps with day-to-day things such as checking books in and out and returning them to the shelves.
This will be her first year in the district and as a library tech.
She has always wanted to be a librarian and went to San Jose State University to get her master’s in library and information science.
This is the job she has dreamt of doing, and she plans to stay in the library field for as long as she can, and possibly go back to school to become a teacher librarian.
“I love books, and I knew it was what I wanted to do. When I was in college, I worked on my degree and I would volunteer in a local elementary school library,” Morris said.
Teacher librarian Lisa Gore explained that she and Morris share perspectives and beliefs.
“Bo has similar viewpoints and perspectives that we are looking for in terms of being super open-minded and has different interests that can identify with different people on campus, which is important to make everyone feel seen and heard,” Gore said.
Gore knew Morris was perfect for this job because of the way that she could connect with all the students on campus.
Gore explained there were some holes in the library after former library tech Kathleen Lewis moved to the Bay Area, and that Morris has filled them.
“She is very good at technology, which I am not, so she adds that,” Gore said.
Teaching in Poway is in her blood.
“I have family members in the Poway Unified School District. Grandma works at Midland Elementary and my cousin [Campus Supervisor Gene Morris] works at Poway High School too, I have always wanted to work at a school,” Morris said.
