Many teens find themselves juggling multiple responsibilities at once, from jobs to sports and schoolwork. This can be overwhelming, but for some, they say it helps them strengthen their resilience.
Senior Isaiah Provencio, who plays both Lacrosse and Hockey and is employed, says he maintains effective strategies to keep up his commitments.
“I’m able to maintain my busser job at Ms. Kim’s Kitchen and my job in construction, with good communication with my bosses and coaches,” Provencio said.
This constant contact with teachers, coaches, and bosses can help with scheduling, especially when students face work obligations interfering with practice or game days.
“Balancing school work, jobs, and sports is not simple. Keeping to-do lists to keep track of upcoming assignments, practices, and work shifts can help,” Provencio said.
Stress can be overwhelming and intense while students navigate these challenges, but with resilience and effective time management, students can thrive.
Senior Shelly Benisty shares her own set of challenges balancing work and being a cheerleader and yearbook editor.
She places schoolwork at the top of her list. “I prioritize my schoolwork on top of cheerleading and my job because it’s important to me,” Benisty said.
Senior Camryn Perkes, who works at Yogurt Lounge also has to prioritize her workload.
“ I try to shift my work hours around school, so I can stay consistent with my work,” Perkes said.
