On Sept. 13, Poway defeated Ramona in a varsity football game, with an impressive score of 49-7. The win brought Poways win-loss ratio to 3-1, marking their third win in a row.
Among the Poway roster were two players who distinguished themselves on the field; juniors Tyler Hurst and Colin McCann.
Hurst, well-known on his team for his skills and teamwork, wowed the stands by scoring five touchdowns and throwing more than 300 yards during the game.
“It was fun. It was against Ramona, and it was nice to beat them because they’re so close,” Hurst said.
Hurst, though his skills are impressive, has near-equal footing tactically with his teammate, McCann.
McCann, also known for his skills on the field, scored two touchdowns and picked up more than 60 receiving yards.
The junior said that he enjoyed using his tactics against Ramona, saying, “It was great to see all my hard work pay off.”
The two players are an unstoppable force out on the field, combining their mutual levels of skill to surprise and dominate their opponents.
This doesn’t always work out in the end, like with the recent loss against Del Norte, but it sure makes for some exciting results.
The duo are also inspiring players in the lower divisions of football. “They inspire me to do my best out on the field,” JV player Matthew Hughie said.
Hurst and McCann plan to bring their best to the upcoming away game against Torrey Pines on Oct. 21, where they will surely bring something exciting, regardless of win or loss.
