Joanna Lin watches the football game from the sidelines, anticipating any injury, ready to help. Lin is the new athletic trainer joining CJ Hernandez in supporting athletes and teams.
Previously Lin was a volleyball coach and athletic trainer at Orange County High School. Lin says the athletic trainers’ focus is to take care of the athletes after injury and support them during the rehabilitation process. If the injury is significant, they refer them to physicians as well as follow up with post-injury treatments.
“Our main goal is to get the athletes back on the field, just seeing the athletes succeed is what they strive towards,” Lin said.
“My favorite part . . . is to work with athletes, their drive to get better, that is significantly integral compared to working in other settings,” Lin said.
Athletic director Damien Gonzales explains they decided to hire a second trainer because of the overwhelming amount of work it was for just one person. “We have so many sports on campus with one athletic trainer. They’re overworked; it just brings a good balance to the job. And having two is great for our student-athletes.”
Lin works alongside fellow athletic trainer CJ Hernandez. Before Lin’s hire Hernandez was the only athletic trainer.
“I think it’s awesome working with Joanna, and it takes a lot of stress off my plate because I’m not having to worry about being in two places at one time,” Hernandez said “Also, it’s nice to have another colleague to bounce ideas off of.”
