The Poway cheer team has had many coaches coming and going in the last couple of years but now there’s a new one, Coach Ronald Forrest.
With co-coach Serena Giorgio, they plan to lead the Poway High competition team and sideline team to higher achievements. “I want to build the program, I want to introduce males eventually, but until then keep striving and hopefully get a CIF title this year, “ Forrest said.
The departure of coach Cory Froling, who left to pursue other opportunities in the cheer world, left an opening for this season.
Previously Forrest was coaching at Westview High School but came to Poway for the opportunities it had. Forrest pursued cheer for the impact it had on him as a cheerleader in high school and came to Poway to make the difference he experienced.
“He brought with him experience, working in the stunt world which ultimately led us to selecting him,” Gonzoles said.
Forrest came to Poway with big plans for the team. “Stay tuned for what’s in store, lots of good things are happening, and like I said we are always looking to open to the males,” Forrest said. Efforts to recruit male students are underway however there hasn’t been excessive interest from the students.
So far coming to Poway has been a positive and welcoming experience for the new coach“I just love the district, I love the area. I love the school.” Forrest said. Quote for support?
The rest of the cheer team and Giorgio have had positive things to say about Forrest. “It’s been great Ronald has been extremely supportive and is bringing new skills to that we didn’t have last year,” Giorgio said.
