Being the person of the year means you haven’t done something amazing only once or twice, it means you have done something great all year long and have left something behind that people remember you for. That is what Jamie Brown has done during her years here. Brown, the career guidance technician was selected as the classified staff member of the year. Brown helps students with their process of getting into colleges and shows them scholarships should apply for or different ways to raise money.
Since joining the staff five years ago, Brown has made learning a priority. “I have grown profession- ally since I first started working at Poway High by constantly searching for new opportunities for students, reading articles to make sure I’m up to date on current opportunities and making sure to get information out to students as quickly as possible,” Brown said.
She helps students with the intention of guiding them to their dream lives academically and socially.
Five years ago when Brown got hired by principal Richard Nash, she left an unforgettable first impression. “She was super energetic, she had a clear understanding of what students need to be ready for the next level,” Nash said.
In the Titan Center Brown has an open office during school hours, and she helps students with scholar- ships and being prepared to enter the real world. She encourages students to perform their
best academically and wants everyone to succeed.
Nash has seen first hand how Brown interacts with students, all hours of the day whether it’s in a group setting or individually. She does “exactly what we would hope a person in her position
would do, which is truly take care of every student as if they were her own,” Nash said.
When Brown was selected for the award she was excited and grateful.
The title came along with a certificate with a con- gratulations card attached to it, a large banner that is currently hung up next to Brown’s desk, and a gift card. Despite engaging with kids every
day, Brown treats every conversation with a good attitude and a smile on her face. “She was a great choice for this award, just in terms of attitude and her presence, the team player she is, and I just overall think she was a great choice,” counselor Jerilyn Reyes said.
