Around the holidays, travel reaches an all time high.
With the rising costs of gas and other long distance travel options like flights and train tickets, people, especially young high school students, must carefully factor in their budget to avoid exceeding budgets.
Prices continue to skyrocket especially in plane tickets, bus passes and gas as a result of the ‘holiday convenience tax’.
Travel companies tend to jack up the prices during heavy holiday traffic in order to make more money, which certainly does not help when inflation already makes travel difficult.
Most high school students have had to adapt to this change and as a result they are driving less.
“I try to only go out to get food and see a movie occasionally,” senior Ryan Schultz said.
Some families have had to cancel their plans to see family or go on vacation due to the holiday rush of tickets prices. Many students and their families struggle to come up with money for gas as they might not have time for a job or have other expenses to pay.
“Finding the cheapest gas I can is a priority,” senior Caden Lieras said.
Many families have spent more than they originally intended to, having to adjust to the steep increase in travel prices, rising 3% through December according to AAA gas.
Prices will only rise as we get closer to the New Year, making the travel prices not a part of the holiday fun.
