Whip! That’s the first sound you wanna hear when walking through the halls of Poway High. Why? Well, this means that you’ve been hit by… you’ve been struck by… the karaoke golf cart!
Titans may have recently noticed the new Golf Cart Karaoke videos posted by the Poway High School Instagram these past weeks.
Created by English teacher and ASB director Erica Rangel, Golf Cart Karaoke is a way to “give staff a fun feature,” Rangel said. “I wanted to highlight key members of our campus, such as teachers, coaches, or admin. It’s an entertaining way to recognize our Titan staff.”
Golf Cart Karaoke is a creative twist on the recurring segment Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show with host James Corden, where Corden interviews famous musical guests while simultaneously singing with them in his car.
In between belting out some of the latest tunes, Corden asks his guests personal questions in order to give the audience more information on the lives and personalities of his celebrity guests.
With recent participants like coach Carissa Jones-Fletcher and social science teacher Jordan McKee, Rangel has brought on a variety of staff to interview and sing with. These short videos, posted in the form of Instagram Reels, take us on a journey around campus filled with fun tunes and interesting questions.
Released on Oct. 3, Jones-Fletcher was the very first participant on this exciting new series, and the comments reacted very positively to the surprise video.
“It was a pleasure,” Jones-Fletcher said about her Golf Cart Karaoke experience. Even the Poway Unified Instagram account commented, “These are great! Keep them coming!”
Ever wondered what Jones-Fletcher does in her free time? Or maybe you don’t know why people call McKee The GOAT? Whatever questions you have for our PHS staff, Rangel is here to give you answers. So what does the future hold for this new series?
Although it’s still young, Rangel has big plans.
She expects to post a lot more weekly videos with a variety of guests. Ranging from teachers and counselors to admin and coaches, Rangel aims to feature everyone she can, and invites people to comment who they want to see next time.
“I think it’s an interesting way to learn more about our staff,” Rangel said. “And you never know who might be a great singer!”
