Some people dislike flying and fear it, but senior Kaden Holliday relishes flying through the skies. Although just a student during the day, when the bell rings he is the master of the skies.
“Flying was always comfortable,” Holliday said. He is interested in flying because of his father. He says he feels his best up in the sky and has been perfectly comfortable in the cockpit since day one of flying lessons in April.
Holliday first learned to fly in the Cessna 172, and as he got comfortable, it slowly became his favorite plane. He was first introduced to the idea of flying by his father, who works in air traffic control, and since turning 16, he’s been becoming familiar with planes daily through training.
Holliday nears the end of his training, getting his license this October. He practices out of Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport, in San Diego.
The age requirement to pilot planes such as private jets and cargo planes is 18, while to fly an airline, you must be 23 years old. After high school, the career path Holliday wants to pursue is flying. He has flown a variety of planes from the Plus One Fliers club to work his way up until he gets older to one day fly an airline.
