Tucked towards the edge of the campus and quietly nestled in the commotion known as the foreign language epicenter, you can find Poway’s new resident– Profe Amy Rewa. A Poway High alumni and the daughter of Poway’s former wrestling coach, Wayne Branstetter, Rewa is already incredibly comfortable on campus. Though, with new people and a new staff department to get to know, the task is admittedly overwhelming. But, with twelve years of experience under her belt– teaching at both Mount Carmel High School (MCHS) and Meadowbrook Middle School (MBMS)– she certainly seems to have what it takes to leap into the task.
“I took a break to raise my kids, but I’ve been back for a few years now. Now, I’m finally back here at Poway!” Rewa said.
When she was younger, her father would take her to work with him in the gym, training a new generation of CIF champions. Branstetter coached wrestling on the Poway campus, so most of her life was spent roaming the hallways — the feeling being nostalgic to her now.
“I would come up here all the time- and when tournaments lasted all day long, we would bring our roller skates and we would rollerskate… the campus was perfect for it,” Rewa said.
It’s no coincidence that Profe Rewa seems drawn to Poway High after practically growing up in its hallways, but as time goes by, even familiar places can feel a little overwhelming. However, Poway High’s loving staff has made it especially warm of a welcome. “She’s just so bright and bubbly, with everything she does,” Spanish teacher Profe Kelly Hofmaister said.
The staff, especially the Spanish department, has made it easy for Profe Rewa to feel as though she is being welcomed home. “I think she’s gonna be a great teacher,” Hofmaister said.
