Making the World a safer place
Red cross club co-presidents
With a great knowledge of health issues, Justin Nguyen and Ansley Chan do their best to educate students with their Red Cross Club.
“We organize meetings, create volunteering opportunities, and teach members about health topics so that if a friend, family member, or anybody’s life is in danger, they are well educated and prepared enough to save them,” Co- President Nguyen said. Nguyen has been in the club since his freshman year.
The club is mainly educational, as the Red Cross foundation is particularly strict with volunteering regulations, so they are limited on activities they can do. “Our main goal as a club is to make a difference in the community by providing our members with opportunities and information about the Red Cross Association. Members can take first aid and CPR classes for certification through our club, and we strive to spread awareness on emergency and disaster preparedness. We also offer service opportunities at blood drives,” Co-President Chan said.
In the last year, the club has done blood drives, created and sent Valentine’s Day notes to the children’s hospital, and more. At meetings they have talked about topics like first aid and emergency care.
“Justin and Ansley are very kind and compassionate leaders, inviting anyone and everyone to join. They are organized, confident, and well-prepared to share their knowledge with others, which are some of the reasons they make great co-presidents. Both of them have previously been members of the Red Cross club and even held leadership positions in the past, so they embody the values of the club and want to continue traditions that have passed down the years,” advisor Rachel Banh said.
