Surfs Up! Team Begins Competition

Surfs Up, Dude! Powegians are hitting the waves in style this year with the all new Surf Club. Founded by seniors James Struhs and Kaiden Campell, Surf Club has grown a lot over the school year.

That Surf Club has been able to accomplish this year would be the new Surf Team. The team helps aspiring Poway surfers compete and be competitive with their sport. “I was super psyched when everybody came to tryouts, we’re all there just to have a good time, and compete in the sport we love,” Struhs said.

Surf Club meets every Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. at Del Mar beach. They also have occasional lunchtime meetings. Although they just had their first competition on November 20th, solidifying the team for the rest of the season, they will always have room for more members to kick it at their meetings.

They are planning on continuing these meetings every Wednesday (during school weeks) throughout the year.

Campbell has surfed since he moved to California. “I’ve been surfing since I got here to San Diego. I lived in Arizona for 15 years, but after moving here I’ve been surfing ever since,” Campbell said. Struhs is hoping to continue surfing well into his life as well. “Surfing will always be one of my favorite ways to spend time at the beach, and with friends. I love what the Surf Club has been able to bring to Poway.”

James Struhs said the Surf Club is a great place for beginners, experienced surfers, and everyone in between. Follow the instagram @poway_surf_clubfor  updated information about all of the Surf Club’s activities.
