Academic team wraps up their season

The Academic Team at Poway High has once again had a successful year. Described as a trivia competition played in teams, participants race to answer questions the fastest and accurately before the opposing team does so. Our Titan academic team is divided into three divisions: Freshman, JV, and Varsity.

Curtis Lewis and Anna Hetherington are the advisors for this year’s team and members really enjoy their presence. “I enjoy having two advisors, I think it is really beneficial for the whole team,” academic team president, senior Katie O’Connell said.

The process of preparing for a meet is exciting for both students and advisors. “Watching them practice for their meet is one of my favorite things about advising, the excitement among them is thrilling,” Lewis said.

This season was filled with wins, some being more memorable than others. “My favorite match was our three way win against Escondido Charter. It was a very close race for most of the match and had really great questions,” junior Chris Middleberg said.

Academic team is a great place for students that are looking for leadership positions. “I am academic team president and I lead meetings, organize team rosters, and am also the spokesperson for our team at matches. I have been on the academic team since freshman year and would recommend it to everyone looking for extracurriculars,” O’Connell said.

Academic team has been preparing for their off season and will pick up regular season matches starting in the fall.
