Softball defeats rival RB on senior night
With high energy on the field and in the stands, the girls’ varsity softball team beat rival Rancho Bernardo on May 13. They played at the Poway Sportsplex for their senior night and honored three seniors: Devan Baggett, Madison Berry and Carly Plante.
Beating Rancho Bernardo 1-0, the only run scored came by a home run from freshman Sophia Burmeister in the fourth inning.
Freshman pitcher Mya McGowan struck out the final Rancho Bernardo batter with the bases loaded to end the game.
Baggett is a pitcher and has been playing softball since she was four, she has been playing varsity softball since her junior year.
“My favorite memory from the season was beating Helix in the semi-finals of a tournament we played this season,” Baggett said.
Baggett plans to attend Coe College and will be continuing her softball career there.
Another strong asset for the team is Madison Berry. Berry plays outfield and has been playing softball since she was 12, She will continue to play softball at Westcliff University.
“I am really going to miss this team’s energy. It can’t compare to other teams I have played for, and the love everyone has for the sport makes it even better,” Berry said.
Plante began playing softball when she was eight but unfortunately injured her shoulder two years ago and stopped playing one year ago.
The softball team has had a rough time against Rancho Bernardo recently, but beating them on senior night was the best outcome the seniors could have asked for.
