Soccer star commits
Edmunds to play for CSU Monterrey Bay
Izzy Edmunds, the girl who has been known for scoring goals and tough defense, recently committed to continuing her education and soccer career at Cal State Monterey Bay.
Edmunds has always been an outside mid for Poway and San Diego Surf, but in college she will be playing outside defense to be guar- anteed playing time. Edmunds has played since she was four years old.
“I’m very excited to be able to continue playing soccer for the next four years, and it’s always been a goal of mine to play at the collegiate level,” Edmunds said.
After playing soccer for almost 13 years, the sport has become very meaningful to Izzy.
“My favorite memory playing soccer was scoring goals my freshman year on varsity,” Edmunds said.
Her teammates are accepting that it is the end of an era playing with her, but they are excited to see her move on to the next level.
“I think it’s amazing Izzy is going to be playing soccer in college. From watching her all these years, I knew she was going to make it to this level. She’s working hard, and it’s paid off,” senior Alyssa Bean said.
Edmunds has always worked to impress her coaches and make them proud.
“As a coach I have a sense of pride, I am proud of her for achieving this culmination of all her efforts for the past decade between school and athletics,” soccer coach Aaron Jaffe said.
